4X4 awards for Jeep
19 April 2010
Jeep has dominated the winners' podium at the recent 4x4 Magazine Awards by claiming first place in three different categories. The US company earned top honours in the Extreme, SUV and Budget 4x4 of the Year sections of the competition. The popular magazine reviewed the top 4x4s on sale in the UK for its annual 4x4 of the Year test at Baden Hall, near Eccleshall, Staffordshire. The award categories were Budget, Family, SUV, Pick-Ups, Luxury and Extreme. Hils Everitt, Editor of 4x4 Magazine, said this year's test was reduced to the top 20 4x4s currently on sale in the UK, so that the judges could concentrate on those 4x4s that still retain some credibility as true all-rounders. The criteria was simple. Vehicles should be powered by a diesel engine and offer some form of sophisticated off-road ability. During the test, the Jeep Wrangler came out the winner in a straight fight against Land Rover's Defender. Meanwhile the earned the title of SUV of the Year, triumphing against 2 and the Suzuki Grand Vitara. The award for Budget 4x4 of the Year was presented to the Jeep Patriot ahead of Daihatsu's long-serving Terios and the new Fiat Panda Cross.
